Reed Product Development

Turf Design specializes in the design and fabrication of acoustic products. The company was developing a new product line (Reed) that would be based on bending felt into curved shapes to create a soft rhythmic surface. My role was to develop a python script that could generate the cut files for a given 2D design. The script would take the 2D design and generate the 3D model of the installation, then unroll the 3D model to create the cut files for the felt. The script was developed in VS Code using Python and Rhinoscriptsyntax.

Ultimately, the most difficult part of the project was testing to make sure that various tolerance and edge cases were handled correctly. Debugging was also a challenge as the output in Rhino is not always clear.
